
Year 2018 - 2019
This academic year marks the 79th Anniversary of the 16th Hong Kong Group since its establishment in June 1940. This year, our Group has set up four sections to cater for members across different age groups, namely Grasshopper Ring, Cub Pack, Scout Troop and Venture Scout Unit.
79th Anniversary Celebration: Hiking and Investiture on Lamma Island
On 17th November 2018, our Group held the 79th Anniversary Group Celebration – Hiking Day Trip on Lamma Island, with a joint-section investiture held under the Lamma Power Station. Around 60 newly joined grasshopper scouts, cub scouts and scouts were conferred a new title in front of our Group Scout Leader. Over 150 scouts and their parents from 4 sections attended the hiking trip.


Dedication and Victory: Achievements in the Island Scout Trail Walk 2019
On 17th March 2019, our leaders and members took part in a hiking competition “Island Scout Trail Walk 2019” organized by the Hong Kong Island Region. We had sent 1 leader team and 13 member teams. Our leader team completed the 50-km trail in 7 hours 30 minutes and obtained the 9th consecutive championship in the “Leaders’ Section”. Another member team completed the 50-km trail in 9 hour 52 minutes, claiming the 5th place in the “Members’ Section”. Congratulations to the achievements and efforts made by all leaders and members.
From Hong Kong to West Virginia: Our Journey to the World Scout Jamboree
On 21st July – 2nd August 2019, 7 venture scouts and 6 scouts took part in the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, United States. Some of our Venture Scouts served as volunteer workers in the International Service Team. The contingent unit consisted of the scout brothers of 15th HKG (Wah Yan College, Hong Kong) and 35th HKG (Hong Kong Tang King Po College). All of us joined different adventure activities, outings and night shows.


Group Council
In January 2010, the Group Council was established with the ultimate aim of providing support and guidance for the development of our Group. Comprised of dedicated individuals, the Council members have generously contributed their time and resources to oversee the Group's operations. Their valuable support, both in terms of finance and human resources, has been instrumental in our growth and success. We are immensely grateful for their unwavering generosity and contribution.
Bridging Generations: The Council's Vital Role in Our Group
Council members have devoted a lot of time to oversee the operation of the Group and given generous support in terms of finance and human resources. Members graduated between the 1950s and the 1990s were also involved in the Council affairs. We are much indebted to their generosity and contributions. Moreover, the Council served as a bridge to reconnect the members of different ages via a lot of reunions, as seen from the increasing number of Council members.


Grasshopper Scout Ring
The Grasshopper Ring establishes in an effort to serve the Primary 1 to 2 students of St. Louis School (Primary Section) and enable them to learn the rules and discipline through regular meetings, trainings and outdoor adventures. Regular meetings were held on Saturday mornings.
A Festive Gathering: Scouts and Parents Celebrate Winter Solstice
On 22nd December 2018, the Winter Solstice, the Ring invited our scouts and venture scouts, as well as the parents of our grasshopper scouts to make dumplings during regular meeting. More than 50 scouts and parents enjoyed the dumpling making activity on Winter Solstice.

Nurturing Care: Grasshopper Scouts' Elderly Service at Tai Tam
Apart from indoor activities held at school, our Ring held different outdoor activities in order to enhance their ability in self-care, safety in nature and environmental protection of our grasshopper scouts. On 9th March 2019, our grasshopper scouts participated in the Elderly Service, which was organized by our Venture Scout Unit at Tai Tam Scout Centre. During the service, our grasshopper scouts interacted with the elderly, including performance, field sketching and team games. All participants felt loved and warmth in the service.

Culinary Creativity: Grasshopper Scouts at the Food Truck Festival
We also aimed to provide a variety of activities to our grasshopper scouts. This year, our grasshopper scouts participated in 2 different kinds of activities organized by the Scout Association of Hong Kong.
On 14th April 2019, 8 of our grasshopper scouts participated in the “Grasshopper Food Truck Festival” organized by the Hong Kong Island Western District. Grasshopper scouts experienced the process of making and baking pizza. After the food-making program, they tried to design a food truck booth to promote the pizza. All grasshopper scouts and leaders enjoyed the program very much.


Victorious Grasshopper Scouts: Champions at Commissioner Cup
Besides activities, our leaders also encouraged our grasshopper scouts to participate in competitions. On 31st March 2019, 6 of our grasshopper scouts took part in the Commissioner Cup of the Hong Kong Island Western District and obtained the Championship. Congratulations to all grasshopper scouts!


Cub Scout Pack
Cub Scout Pack is set up to encourage physical, mental and spiritual development of our Primary 3 to 6 students of St. Louis School (Primary Section).
A Year of Growth: Outdoor Activities and Honors for Our Cub Scouts
Besides regular meetings, our Pack held a range of outdoor functions. On 17th November 2018, we went hiking on Lamma. In April 2019, 4 cub scouts attended an overnight pack holiday at HKGGA New Sandilands Training Centre. In August 2019, our senior cub scouts joined a wild camp organized by our Scout Troop at Tung Tsz Scout Centre. Throughout this academic year, our cub scouts also attended multiple training courses organized by the Hong Kong Island Western District and the Hong Kong Island Region.
Our Pack received the “Distinguished Group Award” and 1 cub scout obtained the “Golden Bauhinia Award”, which is the highest award that could be achieved by a cub scout. Congratulations to the awardee and thank you for the efforts made by all cub scout leaders and members.


Scout Troop
Activities of the Scout Troop were targeted at helping young people, providing them with challenging and progressive training programmes for their physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and aesthetic development. Devoted leaders spent much of their leisure time to organize games, trainings and meetings for our youth members.
From Basics to Competitions: Scouts' Journey of Growth and Achievement
Through regular trainings and taking part in various public competitions, our scouts gained leadership, independence and motivation – some valuable life skills for their future development.
Regular meetings were held on Saturday afternoons at school. Our leaders delivered a lot of basic knowledge to our scouts, including map reading, camping skills and first-aid. In November 2018, we took part in the “Carlton 2019 – HKIR Selection”. We competed with elite scout troops around the Hong Kong Island Region on various skills. Our team achieved third runner-up of the competition. Assistant Patrol Leaders and Patrol Leaders had also taken part in the Leadership Exploration Programme (LEP), which was held during summary holiday, to flourish friendship and fortify brotherhood among themselves and other members.

Adventures in the Wild: Outdoor Activities Enhance Scout Experience
Besides regular scout meetings, countless outdoor activities were organized to widen the exposure and to enhance the physical fitness of our scouts. On 23rd February 2019, we hiked to Lantau North Country Park. Troop wild camps were held in Sai Kung Wan Tsai West Campsite on 29th – 31st December 2018 and Tung Tsz Scout Centre on 14th – 16th August 2019. Members enjoyed a lot when they worked together to pitch tents, cook a delicious meal in the wild and play different games. In August 2019, Kayak Three-star Award Training Courses were held.



Venture Scout Unit
Similar to other school associations, our Venture Scout Unit runs under the constitution. “Nothing Venture, Nothing Gain” is the motto and our members were proud to being the members of the Unit.
Spreading Love: Scouts' Performance and Crafts for the Elderly
On 8th March 2019, an elderly service was co-organized with St. Luke's Settlement Neighbourhood Elderly Centre for the elderly at the Tai Tam Scout Centre. The service included grasshopper performance, group games and handmade crafts. Our venture scouts and grasshopper scouts got along with the elders, showed care and love, and bring joy to others.



Training for Success: Leadership Camp at Lei Yue Mun Park
In order to enhance the leadership quality of the Executive Committee of our unit, House Captains, Club chairmen and the Executive Committee of the Student Activity Association (SAA) of the next scholastic year, a tailor-made training camp, namely “Student Leaders Training Camp” was successfully co-organized with SAA on 5th and 6th July 2019 at Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village. The camp aimed to train the skills of planning, leadership, and interpersonal relationship, so they could overcome difficult situations.


United by Fire: The Memorable 16 x 31 Joint Unit Campfire
This year, our Unit organized a myriad of activities. The highlight was the “16 x 31 Joint Unit Campfire”. The joint-unit campfire was co-organized by our Unit and 31st Is Coy (St. Francis' Canossian College) at St. Louis School on 13th July 2019. The theme was “Loputu”. Over 200 scouts and girl guides took part in our campfire.



From Unit to Region: Embracing Leadership in the Hong Kong Island Region
Our Unit encourages our members to step out and explore the world outside the Unit. Our former chairman, Wong Hoi Wai Tony, was elected as the chairman of the Hong Kong Island Region Venture Scout Council. Apart from Tony, two former Executive Committee members, Li Shing Lai Eric and Cheung Ting Wai Matthew, were also nominated to be the members of the HKIRVSC. In order to implement the “Youth Involvement in Decision Making” policy, Tony was nominated by the Regional Commissioner and the Regional President to be the Co-opted member of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Island Region (HKIR). Eric and Matthew were nominated to be the Secretaries of the HKIR Sea Activity Committee. We hope our members can learn and gain different soft skills outside our Unit and broaden their horizons.
