
Year 2017 - 2018
This academic year marks the 78th Anniversary of the 16th Hong Kong Group since its establishment in June 1940. This year, our Group has set up Grasshopper Ring, Cub Pack, Scout Troop and Venture Scout Unit.
Swimming to Victory: Highlights from the Scout Swimming Competition
On 5th October 2017, our leaders and members took part in the Scout Swimming Competition organized by the Programme Branch of the Scout Association of Hong Kong. Two of our scouts obtained the second runner-up of 50-meter breaststroke and second runner-up of 100-meter breaststroke respectively. One of our venture scouts obtained the champion of 100-meter freestyle. Two of our leaders obtained the second runner-up of 50-meter freestyle and champion of 100-meter freestyle; first runner-up of breaststroke and first runner-up of 100-meter breaststroke respectively. One of our venture scouts, CHEUNG Ting Wai, represented the Hong Kong Island Region to participate in 20 x 50-meter Regional relay competition and obtained the first runner-up. Congratulations to the achievements and efforts made by all leaders and scouts.

A Memorable Celebration: Scouts at the St. Louis School 90th Anniversary Open Day
On 11th and 12th November 2017, our School held the 90th Anniversary Open Day. Our Group set up two booths, which was a pioneering booth at the Football Pitch and an exhibition booth at the classroom. Many old scouts visited our booths and took photos in order to mark down the memorial moment.


78th Anniversary Celebration: A Day of Fun and Night Show
On 18th November 2017, our Venture Scout Unit held the 78th Anniversary Group Celebration. Our organizing committee prepared different activities in the afternoon and a night show was held. More than 100 scouts and their parents from 4 sections attended the Celebration.


Group Council
In January 2010, the Group Council was established with the ultimate aim of providing support and guidance for the development of our Group. Comprised of dedicated individuals, the Council members have generously contributed their time and resources to oversee the Group's operations. Their valuable support, both in terms of finance and human resources, has been instrumental in our growth and success. We are immensely grateful for their unwavering generosity and contribution.
Bridging Generations: The Council's Vital Role in Our Group
Council members have devoted a lot of time to oversee the operation of the Group and given generous support in terms of finance and human resources. Members graduated between the 1950s and the 1990s were also involved in the Council affairs. We are much indebted to their generosity and contributions. Moreover, the Council served as a bridge to reconnect the members of different ages via a lot of reunions, as seen from the increasing number of Council members.


Grasshopper Scout Ring
The Grasshopper Ring is set up with an aim of serving the Primary 1 to 2 students of St Louis School (Primary Section) and enabling them to learn the rules and discipline through regular meetings, trainings and outdoor adventures.
Dynamic Engagement of the Ring
Passionate leaders of other sections voluntarily took up the role of running the Ring with new objectives starting from this scholastic year. The Ring was restructured and follow the four methods: story and drama, music and movement, group games and creative activities.
This year, our Ring resumed the regular meeting in the morning of Saturday. In order to experience the outdoor learning classroom, some of our meetings were taken place at the park in Sai Wan. Our grasshoppers felt excited when they were having outdoor meetings.

Family Fun: Grasshoppers and Parents Hike in Island Scout Trail Walk 2018
We aimed to provide variety of activities to our grasshoppers. This year, our grasshoppers took part in 3 different kinds of activities organized by the Scout Association of Hong Kong.
On 11th March 2018, more than 20 grasshoppers and their parents participated in the 6-km hiking of the “Island Scout Trail Walk 2018” organized by the Hong Kong Island Region. Many grasshoppers and parents enjoyed the casual hiking from Chi Fu to the Peak.

Baking Fun: Grasshoppers Enjoy Food Truck Festival
On 8th April 2018, 8 of our grasshoppers participated in the “Grasshopper Food Truck Festival” organized by the Hong Kong Island Western District. Grasshoppers experienced the process of making and baking cookies. After the food making program, they tried to design an own mini bag. All grasshoppers and leaders enjoyed the program very much.


Cub Scout Pack
Cub Pack is set up to encourage physical, mental and spiritual development of our Primary 3 to 6 children.

Scout Troop
Activities of the Scout Troop were targeted at helping young people, providing them with challenging and progressive training programmes for their physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and aesthetic development. Devoted leaders spent much of their leisure time to organize games, trainings and meetings for our youth members.
Adventure Awaits: Exciting Outdoor Activities with Our Cub Pack
Besides regular meetings, our Pack held many outdoor functions. We organized a Lunar New Year Camp on 23rd – 25th February 2018 at Tung Tsz Scout Center. On 11th March 2018, we participated in the 6-km hiking of the “Island Scout Trail Walk 2018” organized by the Hong Kong Island Region. Most of our cub scouts and their parents enjoyed the trip from Chi Fu to the Peak. On 19th – 20th May 2018, we organized an outdoor activity camp at Tung Tsz Scout Center in order to enhance the camping skills of our cub scouts. On 14th – 15th July 2018, we took part in the Cub Scout Pack Holiday organized by the Hong Kong Island Western District. Many cub scouts experienced the fruitful Pack Holiday in the hot summer.

Proud Moments: Cub Pack's Distinguished Group and Top Awards
Our Pack received the “Distinguished Group Award” and 6 cub scouts obtained the “Golden Bauhinia Award”, which is the highest award that could be achieved by a cub scout. Congratulations to all awardees and efforts made by all cub scout leaders and members.


Venture Scout Unit
Similar to other school associations, our Venture Scout Unit runs under the constitution. “Nothing Venture, Nothing Gain” is the motto and our members were proud to being the members of the Unit.
From Challenges to Triumphs: Venture Scout Competition 2017
Our venture scouts took part in different public competitions in this year. One of the competitions was the Venture Scout Competition 2017. 8 of our ventures took part in the Wilderness Challenge part in 1st – 2nd July 2017 and 4 of our venture scouts took part in the Team Planning part in 1st and 2nd October 2017. Out Unit competed with 32 teams among the Venture Scout Units in Hong Kong and obtained the Best Presentation Award in the competition.

Endurance and Achievement: Highlights from Island Scout Trail Walk 2018
On 11th March 2018, our leaders and members took part in a hiking competition “Island Scout Trail Walk 2018” organized by the Hong Kong Island Region. We had sent 3 leader teams and 4 member teams. Our 2 leader teams completed the 50-km trail in 6 hours 57 minutes and 7 hours 7 minutes and the championship and first-runner up respectively in the “Leaders’ Section”. One of our member teams completed the 50-km trail in 9 hour 9 minutes, claiming the first-runner up in the “Members’ Section”. Congratulations to the achievements and efforts made by all leaders and members.

From SummerFest to Competitions: Grasshoppers' Eventful Year
On 5th August 2018, some of our grasshoppers took part in the “Island Scout Golden Jubilee Day” organized by the Hong Kong Island Region. They played and visited the booth in the SummerFest at Central.
Besides activities, our leaders also encouraged our grasshoppers to participate in competitions. 6 of our grasshopper scouts took part in the Commissioner Cup of the Hong Kong Island Western District and obtained the first runner-up of the competition. Also, most of our grasshoppers participated in the Calligraphy Competition of the Scout Association of Hong Kong. One of our grasshopper scouts entered the final round of the competition. Congratulations to all grasshopper scouts!

Friendship and Skills: Joint Meetings and Leadership Training
Regular meetings were held on Saturday afternoons at school. Our leaders delivered a lot of basic knowledge to our scouts, including map reading, camping skill and first-aid. In April and May 2018, we have organized joint meetings with the 15th Hong Kong Group (Wah Yan College, Hong Kong). In the meetings, various activities were held to enhance the friendship among the leaders and the scouts and to foster communications between the two schools. Assistant Patrol Leaders and Patrol Leaders had also taken part in the Leadership Exploration Programme (LEP) held during summary holidays, with gatherings outside official training hours to flourish friendship and brotherhood among themselves and other members.

Adventure and Fitness: Outdoor Activities for Our Scouts
Besides regular scout meetings, countless outdoor activities were organized to widen the exposure and to enhance the physical fitness of our scouts. On 30th March 2018, we hiked to Plover Cove Country Park. A Troop wild camp was held in Sai Kung Wan Tsai South Campsite from 20th to 22nd July 2018. Members enjoyed a lot when they worked together to pitch tents, cook a delicious meal in the wild and play different games. In July and August 2018, Kayak Three-Star Award Training Courses were held.

Wilderness Warriors: Venture Scouts Shine in Venturer Racing Shield 2017
On 26th November 2017, 4 of our venture scouts joined the “Venturer Racing Shield 2017” organized by the Hong Kong Island Region. They accepted the wilderness challenges provided by the organizer and finally obtained the second runner-up in Venture Section. Congratulations to all venture scouts and thanks the support from all members and leaders.

A Joint Effort: Over 100 Participants in Superjoint V
This year, our Unit organized a myriad of activities. One of the features was a continuation of previous year event, Superjoint V. It was co-organized by 8 different Units from March to April 2018, including 5th Is Coy (Marymount Secondary School), 7th Is RGSU (St Paul’s Convent School), 12th HKGVSU (Queen’s College), 15th HKGVSU (Wah Yan College, Hong Kong), 25th Is Coy (St Paul’s Secondary School), 31st Is Coy (St Francis' Canossian College), 99th Hong Kong Group Venture Scout Unit (Raimondi College) and our Unit. Over 100 participants from the 6 units enjoyed the city chasing and base games organized by the organizing committee.

5 x 16 Joint Unit Campfire: A Night of Unity and Celebration
Another highlight was the “5 x 16 Joint Unit Campfire”. The joint-unit campfire was co-organized by our Unit and 5th Is Coy (Marymount Secondary School) at St. Louis School on 21st July 2018. The theme was “Amaryllis”. Over 200 scouts and girl guides took part in our campfire.

Empowering Future Leaders: Student Leaders’ Training Camp 2018
In order to enhance the leadership quality of the Executive Committee of our Unit, House Captains, Club chairmen and the executive committee of the Student Activity Association (SAA) for the next scholastic year, a tailor-made two-day-one-night camp, namely “Student Leaders’ Training Camp”, was successfully co-organized with SAA on 29th and 30th June 2018 at Breakthrough Youth Village. Several trainings such as trail running, mock life and resource management were provided to the participants.

Encouraging Exploration: the First Venture Scout Beyond Our Unit
Our Unit encourages our members to step out of their comfort zone and explore the world outside the Unit. This year, our chairman, Tony WONG Hoi Wai, was nominated by the commissioner of Programme Branch of the Scout Association of Hong Kong to join the Venture Scout Council of the Programme Branch and the Venture Scout Council of the Hong Kong Island Region. He was then elected as the Secretary of the Venture Scout Council of the Programme Branch. We hope our members can learn and gain different soft skills outside our Unit and broaden their horizons.
